Terms of use
Plain-language terms. Use the tool freely, but test before you print, and do not encode anything unlawful.
Last updated:
1. Agreement
By using QRilo you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site. These terms apply to the website and the QR code generator it provides.
2. What you may do
QRilo is provided for free. You may use it for personal, educational and commercial purposes, including codes printed on business cards, menus, packaging, signage, vehicle graphics and paid advertising. There is no attribution requirement and no royalty. You may modify and redistribute the codes you generate, because they are simply data you created.
3. Your responsibility for code content
You are solely responsible for the content you encode and for how you distribute or publish the result. You agree not to use this tool to create codes that lead to:
- malware, phishing pages, deceptive login screens or fraudulent payment pages;
- content that infringes copyright, trade marks or other rights you do not hold;
- unlawful, defamatory, harassing, hateful or sexually exploitative material;
- misleading official-looking material, such as codes imitating a government or bank notice.
We do not review, filter or have any visibility into content encoded with this tool, so we cannot prevent misuse and we do not endorse any code created by anyone.
4. No warranty — always test before printing
The generator is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. We do not warrant that a code will scan successfully on every device, in every lighting condition, or in every printed form.
The tool includes automated checks for the properties that most often cause failures — contrast, quiet-zone margin, module density and logo coverage — but those checks are guidance, not a guarantee. Always scan the final, physical code with more than one phone before you commit to a print run. This is especially important for Bitcoin and other payment addresses, where an unreadable or misread code has real financial consequences.
5. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, QRilo and its operator are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from your use of the site, including lost print costs, lost advertising revenue, or funds sent to an incorrect address. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
6. Availability and changes
We aim to keep the site available, but we do not promise uninterrupted service. The generator itself runs in your browser, so it continues to work if your connection drops mid-session. We may modify, add or remove features at any time. Codes you have already downloaded are unaffected by any change here, because they do not depend on our servers.
7. Advertising
The site displays advertising, which funds free access. Adverts are served by third parties and are labelled. We are not responsible for the content of third-party adverts or for the products and services they promote. See the privacy and cookies notice for how advertising data is handled.
Advertising is confined to this website and does not affect the codes you generate. Every code you create is free and ad-free, and no advert, tracking element or redirect is placed in, on or around it — either at the time you download it or at any point afterwards. Because your content is encoded directly into the symbol and we operate no server in the path of your code, there is no mechanism by which we or anyone else could later add advertising to it. This applies permanently: we make no claim on your code after you download it, and we reserve no right to monetise it.
Your codes are also unaffected by your advertising choices. If you decline advertising cookies, the generator produces exactly the same output.
8. Intellectual property
The QRilo name, site design and source code are ours. “QR Code” is a registered trademark of DENSO WAVE INCORPORATED; the QR standard is free to use, so you may generate and distribute codes freely, but you may not use that trademark in a product or service name as though it were yours. The encoding engine includes the MIT-licensed qrcode-generator library, © Kazuhiko Arase, used under the terms of the MIT licence.
9. Privacy
Your code content never leaves your browser. What little data is involved in running the site is described in the privacy and cookies notice, which forms part of these terms.
10. Governing terms
If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply. These terms describe a free, self-contained tool provided without a support relationship: there is no account, no service level and no contact channel to administer.
